The \"three stocks to avoid\" in my column that I thought were going to lose to the market last week -- Coinbase, Despegar.com, and Bowlero -- fell 21%, 12%, and 12%, respectively, averaging out to a 15% plunge. The S&P 500 experienced only a 0.7% move lower. I was right. I have been correct in 36 of the past 57 weeks, or 63% of the time. Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Best Buy, Luckin Coffee, and Apple as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.1. Best BuyBest Buy's revival a few years ago was a thing of beauty. Now we're seeing that the last major consumer-electronics superstore chain still standing is on wobbly legs. The retailer reports fresh financials on Tuesday morning, and it won't be pretty. Analysts see revenue clocking in 13% lower than the prior-year's fiscal third quarter. Its profit is expected to be cut in half. The near-term outlook is uninspiring. Wall Street pros see revenue slipping 11% for the current holiday quarter, as well as the entire fiscal 2023 year that ends in January. Profitability should take a bigger hit. If you're buying Best Buy for that chunky 4.9% yield, that's a dicey proposition when its bottom line is going the wrong way.Rising costs and the inability of a brick-and-mortar chain to compete on price with bare-boned online merchants are making life hard for Best Buy, again. Now we have a potentially dimming economy setting back demand for consumer electronics. To be fair, Best Buy's renaissance wasn't that exciting. You have to go back to fiscal 2009 -- 14 years -- to find the last time that this chain delivered top-line gains in the double digits.2. Luckin CoffeeIf you were to construct the perfect stock to avoid in a lab, it would probably look a lot like Luckin Coffee. It's a China-based company at a time when most investors outside of the country are steering clear of the market.Let's also not forget that Luckin Coffee is a stock that -- like its hot java -- already burned investors before. You surely remember the accounting scandal of 2020.Have you checked on Luckin Coffee stock lately? The stock is a 20-bagger off its C-suite drama low. The shares ended this past week within 0.5% of a new two-year high, nearly quadrupling from this-year's springtime bottom. We'll get an update on how it's brewing when it pours a cup of third-quarter results on Tuesday.Luckin Coffee has done a commendable job turning things around. After years of losses, it was profitable in 2021. Revenue continued to grow. However, Luckin Coffee's top-line gains have decelerated for four consecutive quarters. It also posted a loss in its previous quarter. It's hard to get excited about Luckin Coffee. It may seem like a low-priced indulgence, but it's a luxury that consumers will avoid if they need to save their money for more-pressing expenses.3. AppleLet's wrap-up this-week's list by picking on the country's most valuable company by market cap. I'm a longtime fan and investor in Apple, but I can see why it's a scary stock to hold heading into this particular holiday shopping season. The economy is on iffy footing, credit card debit is rising, and Apple isn't going to be immune from consumers steering clear of big-ticket purchases this season.Apple held up well when most tech stocks got slammed earlier this year, but the class act of Cupertino is finally proving mortal. It doesn't help that its annual refresh of popular products wasn't overly impressive. With money already tight, it's easy to see consumers ride this year out and see what Apple springs on us in 2023.Analysts aren't excited. They see revenue and earnings per share rising a mere 3% and 2%, respectively, for the new fiscal year. It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Best Buy, Luckin Coffee, and Apple this week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.9,"LKNCY":0.9,"BBY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3437,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9961401037,"gmtCreate":1669006064430,"gmtModify":1676538138576,"author":{"id":"3582291091769891","authorId":"3582291091769891","name":"RichTee","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6d1b850ce27aa1d55b877917181b0ccd","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3582291091769891","idStr":"3582291091769891"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow","listText":"Wow","text":"Wow","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9961401037","repostId":"1117170787","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1117170787","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1669002303,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1117170787?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-11-21 11:45","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The Fed Minutes May Deliver A Massive Blow To The Stock Market","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1117170787","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummaryThe November Fed Minutes will be released Wednesday afternoon. The bond and currency markets a","content":"

Summary

The November Fed Minutes will be released Wednesday afternoon.

The bond and currency markets are already preparing for very hawkish minutes.

Fed board members appear to think rates may head towards 5%.

It will be a holiday-shortened trading week, but it will not be short on news events. The massive news event will come on Wednesday at 2 PM with the release of the November Fed minutes. These minutes will likely reverse the equity market's celebration following a lower-than-expected October CPI report, as the Fed has a different view and is already pushing back hard.

Since the release of that CPI report on November 10, Fed-speak has been crystal clear - slower rate hikes do not mean a lower terminal rate, and one better-than-expected CPI report isn't going to change the path of monetary policy. Ultimately, these speakers seem to think rates are going even higher.

St. Louis Fed Governor James Bullard suggested dovish assumptions about monetary policy justified additional rate hikes.

The November FOMC statement indicated the likelihood of a slower pace of rate hikes coming, while the FOMC press conference indicated that the terminal rate was likely to be higher than previously expected in September. Since the FOMC meeting, a strong case has been laid out by many FOMC members for the overnight rate to head over 5% and potentially to go as high as 5.25% in 2023.

If this message of higher rates is correctly delivered in the FOMC minutes, then it seems more likely than not that the equity market rally since the October CPI report in mid-November should not only pause but reverse.

VIX Positioning

Additionally, the VIX should rise sharply heading into the FOMC meeting on December 14. Not on worries over a 50 or 75 bps rate hike but due to concerns over the Fed's Summary of Economic Projections and the committee's dot plot for terminal rate for the end of 2023.

In fact, throughout 2022, there has been a pattern of the VIX rising or falling into the FOMC meeting following the market's perception of the Fed minutes. The massive news event will come on Wednesday at 2 PM with the release of the November Fed minutes. These minutes will likely reverse the equity market's celebration following a lower-than-expected October CPI report, as the Fed has a different view and is already pushing back hard.Since the release of that CPI report on November 10, Fed-speak has been crystal clear - slower rate hikes do not mean a lower terminal rate, and one better-than-expected CPI report isn't going to change the path of monetary policy. Ultimately, these speakers seem to think rates are going even higher.St. Since the FOMC meeting, a strong case has been laid out by many FOMC members for the overnight rate to head over 5% and potentially to go as high as 5.25% in 2023.If this message of higher rates is correctly delivered in the FOMC minutes, then it seems more likely than not that the equity market rally since the October CPI report in mid-November should not only pause but reverse.VIX PositioningAdditionally, the VIX should rise sharply heading into the FOMC meeting on December 14. Not on worries over a 50 or 75 bps rate hike but due to concerns over the Fed's Summary of Economic Projections and the committee's dot plot for terminal rate for the end of 2023.In fact, throughout 2022, there has been a pattern of the VIX rising or falling into the FOMC meeting following the market's perception of the Fed minutes. Currently, the VIX is trading towards the lower end of its trading range, around 23. The last time the VIX was this low heading into the release of the FOMC minutes came back on August 17, which also marked the end of the August rally and was followed by a sharp rise in the VIX and a very sharp decline in the S&P 500. earnings, and business news.

Singapore Airlines Limited (SGX: C6L)

Singapore Airlines Limited, or SIA, is seeing clearer skies this year as air travel returns with a vengeance.

Passenger numbers for September clocked in at 2.1 million, up more than 13-fold from last September’s 159,700.

Late last month, the carrier announced that it will redeem the S$3.5 billion in mandatory convertible bonds (MCBs) in full.

SIAissued this tranche of MCBsback in March 2020 when the pandemic first broke out.

This redemption will be at 110.408% of the face value of the MCBs, meaning that SIA will cough up S$3.86 billion to fully redeem these securities.

It’s a prudent move by SIA as this batch of MCBs has a conversion price of S$4.84 per share and compared to the airlines’s current share price of S$5.16 per share, it is in the money now.

Should bondholders decide to convert the bonds into shares, it could result in significant dilution for the airline.

Temasek Holdings

Temasek Holdings has announced leadership changes this week in a surprising shake-up at the investment firm.

CFO Leong Wai Leng will step down and be replaced by deputy CFO Png Chin Yee.

Leong was CFO for Temasek for more than 16 years.

President Tan Chong Lee will also step down to lead investment unit 65 Equity Partners, while general counsel Pek Siok Lan is going on a sabbatical and then taking up a new role in July next year.

A spokesperson for Temasek released a statement saying that the above changes are part of “succession planning for key leadership positions”.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings Limited (SGX: BS6)

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, or YZJ, announced that the group had clinched its first two orders for two liquified natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The order was placed by a European customer and the vessels are slated for delivery between 2025 and 2026.

YZJ obtained the GTT licence just last month and these vessels will be the group’s first GTT Mark III LNG carrier order.

Management stated that these vessels are in high demand and YZJ intends to extend its foothold in this sector.

In the background, the International Energy Agency projects that global LNG trade will increase by 17% by 2025 from 2021 levels, thereby keeping demand high for LNG carriers.

YZJ prides itself on being the first non-state-owned shipyard in China to break into this lucrative market which was previously dominated by Korean shipbuilders.

With this contract, the group’s order book now stands at an all-time high of US$10 billion.

Cryptocurrency investments

On Wednesday, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) released a 35-page consultation paper that seeks to protect retail investors from the risks associated with cryptocurrency investments.

There are three key aspects that Singapore’s central bank is targeting.

These measures will apply to retail customers who are not accredited investors as the former are deemed to be less able to access professional advice and have fewer resources at their disposal.

The first regulation proposal prevents digital payment token service providers from providing credit facility, whether it is the form or fiat currencies or digital payment tokens.

The second is to implement customer knowledge assessments to gauge the level and experience of an investor who seeks to trade cryptocurrencies.

Service providers need to assess if retail customers are cognisant of risks such as fraud, theft, illiquidity, or sharp price fluctuations.

Thirdly, the MAS proposes that service providers be prohibited from dangling incentives such as free trading credits or digital payment tokens to entice customers to sign on with them.

In addition to these three proposals, MAS also wants service providers to properly segregate customer assets from company assets, and they should conduct daily reconciliations and provide customers with a statement of accounts every month at the minimum.

Based on feedback on these and other proposals, the central bank will then draw up a set of guidelines to further regulate the cryptocurrency arena. Feedback can be submitted anytime from now till 21 December.

Service providers have six to nine months to adhere to these new rules once they are implemented.

","source":"lsy1602567310727","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n<meta associated with cryptocurrency investments.There are three key aspects that Singapore’s central bank is targeting.These measures will apply to retail customers who are not accredited investors as the former are deemed to be less able to access professional advice and have fewer resources at their disposal.The first regulation proposal prevents digital payment token service providers from providing credit facility, whether it is the form or fiat currencies or digital payment tokens.The second is to implement customer knowledge assessments to gauge the level and experience of an investor who seeks to trade cryptocurrencies.Service providers need to assess if retail customers are cognisant of risks such as fraud, theft, illiquidity, or sharp price fluctuations.Thirdly, the MAS proposes that service providers be prohibited from dangling incentives such as free trading credits or digital payment tokens to entice customers to sign on with them.In addition to these three proposals, MAS also wants service providers to properly segregate customer assets from company assets, and they should conduct daily reconciliations and provide customers with a statement of accounts every month at the minimum.Based on feedback on these and other proposals, the central bank will then draw up a set of guidelines to further regulate the cryptocurrency arena. Feedback can be submitted anytime from now till 21 December.Service providers have six to nine months to adhere to these new rules once they are implemented.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"C6L.SI":0.9,"BS6.SI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2583,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"followers","isTTM":true}
