Wall Street's main indexes closed higher on Monday, lifted by Nvidia and other AI-related stocks, while steelmakers surged after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would impose additional tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
Super Micro Computer rose 18% ahead of a " business update" Tuesday. The artificial-intelligence server maker has had accounting issues, and investors will be seeking insight into how close Super Micro is to filing its annual accounts for the last fiscal year, which ended June 30.
McDonald's rose 4.8%. The fast-food company's adjusted fourth-quarter earnings of $2.83 a share missed analysts' estimates of $2.85. Revenue of $6.39 billion also came up short. U.S. same-store sales dropped 1.4% reflecting "a decline in average check, partly offset by slightly positive comparable guest counts," McDonald's said, but total company same-store sales rose 0.4%, better than analysts' expectations for a 1.1% decline.
Rockwell Automation was up 13% after the industrial-automation company topped analysts' expectations for fiscal first-quarter earnings, and orders in the period rose 10% from a year earlier. The company also maintained its fiscal-year guidance.
