Momentum Picks To Tap Market Rally June After Impressive May Run

After an impressive May for the market, which saw the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite post their best monthly performances since November 2023, momentum continues into June. Factors like easing tariff concerns (at least temporarily), strong corporate earnings, and solid economic data have contributed to this positive sentiment.

However, June is shaping up to be volatile, with ongoing trade policy uncertainties, upcoming US inflation and jobs data, and several central bank meetings.

Based on the Supertrend and Seasonality forecaster I use, we are looking at a 60% bullish monthly close based on data from past 20 years, and the super trend is also indicating that we might be looking at S&P 500 reaching towards 7,000 this year.

To capitalize on the market rally in June, here are some momentum picks and sectors that are showing strength:

Top Momentum Picks (based on recent strong performance and positive outlooks)

$CyberArk(CYBR)$ : This cybersecurity company benefits from the increasing need for updated threat management infrastructure. It has a favorable Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and a Zacks Momentum Score of A, with strong revenue and earnings growth projections.

$Kinross(KGC)$ : With rising gold prices and a robust production profile, including expansions at its Tasiast mine and promising projects like Great Bear, Kinross Gold is poised for significant growth. It also holds a Zacks Rank #1 and Zacks Momentum Score of A.

NatWest Group plc (NWG) : This banking group has positive revenue and earnings growth rates expected for the current year, and its consensus earnings estimate has improved recently. It carries a Zacks Rank #1 and Zacks Momentum Score of A.

It's the first European carrier to fly over 200 million passengers in a fiscal year, and has solid revenue and earnings growth projections. It's a Zacks Rank #1 and Zacks Momentum Score of A stock.

(PCTY) : Paylocity, a provider of cloud-based Human Capital Management and payroll software, is seeing strong revenue growth driven by its innovative product portfolio and comprehensive solutions for mid-sized businesses. It has a Zacks Rank #1 and Zacks Momentum Score of A.

Key Sectors with Strong Momentum

Technology: The technology sector continues to lead, fueled by innovation in enterprise software and artificial intelligence (AI). Companies like $NVIDIA(NVDA)$, $Broadcom(AVGO)$ , Microsoft (MSFT), and Apple (AAPL) have shown strong performance. The easing of US-China trade tensions in May particularly benefited tech stocks. Tech funds have also topped performance charts, with a one-month gain of 8.9% in May.

Financials: The financial sector is also showing strength. Experts anticipate lighter regulatory restrictions for banks following the 2024 election.

Industrials - Capital Goods and Transportation: These sectors have been outperformers, with strong growth in areas like Singapore Technologies Engineering, benefiting from contract wins and steady demand.

Materials: Materials stocks are cyclical investments, and their demand is tied to the overall global economy. With positive economic data, this sector could see continued gains.

Utilities: This sector is expected to benefit from AI in 2025, according to analysts.

Gold and Mining Stocks: With gold prices rising due to geopolitical tensions and a weakening U.S. dollar, mining stocks like Newmont Mining (NEM), Freeport-McMoRan (FCX), and Barrick Mining (B) have seen significant gains.

Steel Stocks: US steel companies like Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF), $Steel Dynamics(STLD)$ , and Nucor (NUE) surged after President Trump's announcement of plans to double tariffs on steel imports.

Important Considerations for June

Trade Policy: Renewed concerns about tariffs, particularly between the US and China, could lead to market volatility.

Economic Data: Upcoming US inflation data and jobs numbers will be crucial.

Central Bank Decisions: Several major central banks, including the ECB and the Bank of Canada, have interest rate decisions scheduled, which could impact market sentiment.

Geopolitical Events: High-level summits and ongoing geopolitical tensions could also influence commodity markets and defense-sector equities.

Summary

We as investors should remain vigilant and consider these broader market dynamics when making investment decisions. Diversification and careful risk management are always recommended.

While we might see opportunities in these sectors and stocks, but we need to remain fluid as things and situations could change pretty quickly.
