STI Rises for 12-Days! Earnings Season Approaches, New Highs or a Pullback Looms?
$Straits Times Index(STI.SI)$ rose for the 12th straight trading day on Tuesday, marking its longest winning streak in history. The rally has been driven by gains in banking, telecommunications, and industrial stocks.
Singapore’s market has become a relative safe haven amid rising global risks.
With ample liquidity, a strong domestic currency, and low interest rates, dividend-yielding stocks are increasingly attractive. DBS Bank analysts noted, “Low interest rates and a lack of alternative income-generating assets may continue to support activity in the Singapore market.”
Some analysts attribute the STI's strong performance to inflows of safe-haven capital. One fund management company even launched the first-ever unit trust specifically designed to track the STI.
During this period, institutional investors have been net buyers in the Singapore market, with net inflows exceeding SGD 400 million.
Bank & Temasek picked blue-chip stocks performed strongly.
In addition to the bank stocks that make up more than half of the STI's weight, several Temasek-linked blue-chip stocks have also performed strongly. $ST Engineering(S63.SI)$ has surged 80% year-to-date, $SEMBCORP INDUSTRIES LTD(U96.SI)$ Industries is up nearly 40%, and $Singtel(Z74.SI)$ has climbed about 35%.
Sembcorp Industries, originally a traditional energy and maritime company, has seen a significant share price increase over the past five years after spinning off its marine business and pivoting toward renewable energy. This transformation has been supported by major shareholder Temasek. These Singapore-based firms form a critical part of Temasek’s portfolio, and the investment company frequently engages with them on enhancing shareholder value and long-term strategy.
In the coming weeks, many Singapore-listed companies will report their H1 2025 earnings. Whether they can exceed market expectations will have a direct impact on the STI’s short-term outlook.

Since I am a glass half full kind of person, I believe that it will. But even if there is a temporary pullback, it is time to swoop in to bargain hunt.
I am eyeing a few great stocks like $Sheng Siong(OV8.SI)$ $SGX(S68.SI)$ and $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$.
As a Singaporean, I believe in our Singapore market. It may not have the drama of tech heavy Nasdaq but it is like that quietly competent auntie who never misses a red packet season and always manages her household with legendary efficiency.

In my portfolio, I’m holding DBS, OCBC, UOB & Sembcorp Industries. These stocks offer a strong mix of stability, dividends, and growth potential. I particularly like how Sembcorp has transformed its business with a clean energy focus. With Temasek actively engaging for long-term value, I see continued upside in these names if earnings hold up.
I’m also keeping an eye on the upcoming H1 2025 results for Frasers Centrepoint Trust and Keppel DC REIT, see if they deliver steady DPU and growth. Overall, the STI’s rally looks fundamentally sound, and I plan to stay invested while adding selectively during pullbacks.

I hold OCBC, a handful of reits including Keppel dc and frenken. Both Keppel dc reit and frenken are the Singapore stocks that allow us to ride the AI wave. Data centres are in high demand in land scarce Singapore and the government is not allowing new data centres to be built, further driving up demand. So, no reason for it to not do well. Fraser’s Centrepoint holds many familiar malls and with shopping being the favourite pastime for Singaporeans, again there is no reason for it to not deliver. In fact both have already delivered good earnings in their latest reports. It is usually the dividend announced and its debt that will influence the stock price
