Why Zoom Must Convert Its AI Features Into Faster Enterprise Growth

$Zoom(ZM)$ reports fiscal second-quarter results after the August 25 close. The company is no longer valued as a pandemic-era video-conferencing disruptor. Its next phase depends on turning Zoom Phone, Contact Center, Workplace and AI Companion into an integrated communications platform that can grow faster than basic meetings.

For the first fiscal quarter, ended April 30 and reported May 21, revenue increased 5.5% to $1.239 billion. Enterprise revenue grew faster than the company total, while large customers contributing more than $100,000 of trailing-12-month revenue also increased. Zoom’s official quarterly-results page contains the release, presentation and filing.

The bullish thesis is that Zoom already sits inside millions of daily business interactions. AI Companion can summarise meetings, draft responses, search workplace knowledge and automate follow-up tasks without requiring users to adopt an unfamiliar interface. Phone and contact-centre products can increase revenue per organisation while consolidating separate communications vendors. Zoom’s substantial cash balance and recurring subscription base give it time to invest while repurchasing shares.

The bearish issue is whether AI differentiates the platform or merely becomes a standard feature. Microsoft can bundle Teams with Office and Copilot, Google connects Meet with Workspace and Gemini, and specialised contact-centre vendors compete on deeper workflows. Free AI functions can improve retention but do not automatically raise revenue. Online customers can also cancel more easily than large enterprise accounts, leaving growth sensitive to retention and pricing.

Management’s second-quarter guidance called for revenue around $1.265–$1.270 billion. The August 25 report should therefore be judged less by a narrow headline beat than by enterprise growth, contact-centre adoption and full-year guidance. Zoom’s investor-relations homepage confirms the August 25 earnings webinar.

Zoom closed at $107.43 on August 21 after trading between $104.88 and $108.63. The shares gained roughly 25% over the preceding four weeks and sit near the 52-week high of $114.74. Approximately $104–$105 is immediate support, followed by $98–$100; resistance lies near $109–$111 and $114–$115. The uptrend is constructive, but proximity to resistance raises disappointment risk.

If earnings preserve enterprise acceleration and ZM holds above $100 after the event, a 30–45-day $95/$90 bull put spread could place the short strike below the recent breakout. The live short put should be near 0.10–0.20 delta with workable liquidity; otherwise a wider safety margin or no position is preferable. A close below $98 on reduced guidance invalidates the structure. Maximum loss equals the $5 width minus credit.

The evidence leans moderately bullish. Enterprise expansion, adjacent products and improved price momentum are constructive, but the company still needs AI usage to produce faster revenue. The view would be invalidated by enterprise growth slowing, contact-centre adoption disappointing or the shares losing $98 alongside weaker guidance. AI Companion can save real time, but conversion from trial to paid seats is the part that matters. If that sticks, Phone and Contact Center get way easier to bundle

The productivity gains are compelling, but paid conversion is the real proof point.

If AI Companion drives that, it becomes a strong entry point for bundling Phone and Contact Center and lifting ARPU.
