Much like the US $SPDR Gold ETF(GLD)$ it is directly backed by physical gold bars securely held in London vaults by JPMorgan. It has a management fee of 0.40%.
Another gold ETF alternative is $Global X Gold Bullion ETF(GXLD.AU)$ . It is released by the same fund manager to capture cost conscious investors. GXLD functions identically to GOLD but its management fee is 0.15%, making it one of the cheapest Gold ETFs in Australia.
