šŸ”„Foldable iPhone Arrives! Can Apple’s Event Move the Stock Price?

Apple has officially announced its fall launch event for Wednesday, September 9 (US Eastern Time) at its California headquarters, themed ā€œSurprise and shineā€. The event will also stream live online. $č‹¹ęžœ(AAPL)$

This event carries special significance: it marks John Ternus’ first major product launch as CEO. Ternus was a key driving force behind the foldable iPhone project, and this gathering formally kicks off the Ternus era at Apple.

The biggest highlight is Apple’s first‑ever foldable iPhone, entering a foldable‑phone market currently dominated by Samsung. This foldable represents arguably the biggest physical redesign in iPhone history. Roughly the size of a standard passport, it opens up to a screen close to a small iPad.

Apple is also set to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro / 18 Pro Max, with upgraded chips, battery life and camera systems. The larger model will feature a mechanical aperture.

Not all iPhone‑18‑line devices will show up, however. The second‑generation iPhone Air and base‑model iPhone 18 are pushed to next spring’s event. They will launch alongside the iPhone 18e, new Macs and new iPads. Apple hopes this will smooth out sales throughout the calendar year.

Other hardware is in the pipeline: new Apple Watch models will likely debut alongside the iPhones. Also in preparation are a screen‑equipped HomePod mini, updated Apple TV set‑top box and refreshed iPad mini.

On paper this event is packed with catalysts: a new‑CEO debut plus Apple’s first foldable handset. Market expectations have run high. Still, Apple’s fall product launches do not always trigger positive stock‑price reactions. Below we review next‑trading‑day performance over the past five fall flagship events for reference.

Looking at historical results, most of these past five fall events finished with stock‑price declines the following trading day.

Apple’s September keynote is never a guaranteed ā€œbuyā€ signal. With these two major new variables in play, bull‑bear divergence will be sharp. Whether the foldable handset becomes a new growth catalyst for AAPL remains to be seen. We await what September 9’s event will deliver.

I think the foldable lands fine because Apple’s ecosystem and hardware-software integration travel way better than Samsung’s. One-day reactions are noise to me

For a company as mature as Apple, one or two product launch events really don’t have much impact on its stock price.
