SpaceX AI Revenue Surges 830%—And a Tesla Merger Is on the Table: Ecosystem or Capex?

SpaceX delivered a blowout third-quarter report.

Revenue reached $14.58 billion, up 161% year over year, while net income came in at $4.4 billion versus a $1.1 billion loss a year earlier. Shares jumped about 8% in after-hours trading.

The biggest surprise was not rockets or Starlink.

SpaceX’s Super Intelligence segment generated $7.56 billion in revenue, up 830% year over year. It has now surpassed Connectivity to become the company’s largest business.

During the earnings call, Elon Musk added another major catalyst: He said combining Tesla and SpaceX would be “a good idea.” Both companies have formed special committees to discuss a potential transaction, although no terms have been agreed and shareholder approval would still be required. Put these developments together, and the market is facing a much bigger question:

Could Musk eventually place AI compute, satellite connectivity, EVs, energy storage and robotics inside one listed company?

The strategic case is easy to imagine.

SpaceX provides satellite infrastructure, cloud capacity and 1.7 GW of nameplate compute. Tesla brings vehicles, autonomous systems, robotics, energy storage and manufacturing scale.

A combined company could potentially connect compute, models, networks, energy and physical endpoints into one integrated AI platform.

SpaceX’s AI revenue gives that narrative a measurable financial foundation. Super Intelligence is no longer only a cost center: It generated $431 million in operating income during the third quarter.

However, investors also need to examine the bill.

SpaceX spent $19.59 billion on capital expenditures during the quarter—more than its entire quarterly revenue. Of that amount, $16.44 billion went into Super Intelligence.

In other words, every $1 of quarterly AI revenue was accompanied by more than $2 of AI capital expenditure.

For the first nine months of 2026, SpaceX generated $13.1 billion in operating cash flow while spending $48.1 billion on capex. AI is growing quickly, but it remains an extremely capital-intensive business.

For Tesla shareholders, a merger would not simply mean receiving SpaceX and Starlink exposure for free.

If the transaction is structured as an all-stock deal, the exchange ratio, SpaceX’s valuation, shareholder dilution and future responsibility for data-center spending will matter more than the headline synergies.

Tesla shares rose only about 1% following the news, significantly less than SpaceX’s after-hours gain. That suggests investors are more cautious about the Tesla side of the equation. (CNBC)

Tiger’s View

The biggest change is that SpaceX’s valuation story is shifting from “rockets plus Starlink” toward “AI infrastructure plus satellite connectivity.”

Quarterly AI revenue of $7.56 billion shows that SpaceX is already selling meaningful compute and cloud capacity to outside customers. But quarterly capex of $19.59 billion is a reminder that faster AI growth also creates heavier funding and capital-allocation pressure.

If a Tesla-SpaceX merger moves forward, three numbers will matter most:

1. The exchange ratio: How much SpaceX ownership would Tesla shareholders actually receive?

2. AI revenue quality: Is growth supported by durable cloud contracts, or more dependent on compute rentals and acquisition contributions?

3. Capex versus cash flow: Can the AI business eventually fund its own expansion, or will it continue relying on IPO proceeds, debt and group-level financing?

The bull case is that Musk’s AI, satellite, automotive and energy assets could finally receive a unified platform valuation.

The risk is that several highly capital-intensive businesses—with complicated governance and related-party considerations—could end up sharing the same balance sheet.

③ The exchange ratio and shareholder dilution matter most.

A Tesla-SpaceX merger could create an ambitious AI ecosystem, combining satellite connectivity, computing infrastructure, autonomous vehicles, robotics and energy storage. But synergies do not automatically translate into shareholder returns.

SpaceX’s $7.56 billion in quarterly AI revenue is impressive, yet its $19.59 billion in capex highlights the enormous cost of expansion. Investors must distinguish revenue growth from sustainable cash generation.

The key question is how much Tesla shareholders must pay for SpaceX’s growth. An unfavorable exchange ratio could dilute their interests, even if the combined company becomes more powerful.

My view: The merger could unlock long-term value, but valuation discipline comes first. I would rather see a fair deal with transparent financials than an AI narrative that leaves existing shareholders carrying disproportionate costs.

I think the AI, satellite and automotive ecosystem could create significant long-term synergies, but I would choose option ③: the exchange ratio and shareholder dilution matter most. $SpaceX(SPCX)$ AI revenue growth is impressive, yet its enormous capital expenditure raises questions about how sustainable that growth will be.

As a Tesla investor, I see potential in combining FSD, Robotaxi, Optimus, energy storage, Starlink and AI computing. However, strategic synergies do not automatically translate into shareholder value. The valuation of both companies and the terms of any merger would determine whether Tesla shareholders truly benefit.

I would remain optimistic but cautious until the details become clearer. For me, the key is whether the combined business can generate sustainable cash flow without excessive dilution or financial risk. I believe in Musk’s long-term vision, but execution and valuation will ultimately determine the outcome.
