Option ① is the biggest concern, but the real issue is the return on AI investment.

Hong Kong tech stocks are facing a tougher valuation test. Investors are no longer satisfied with ambitious AI roadmaps; they want measurable revenue growth, stronger margins and sustainable cash flow.

Tencent and Alibaba still possess valuable ecosystems, but rising computing costs, depreciation and fierce competition could delay the payoff. The danger is not necessarily that AI will fail, but that investors have priced in profits arriving sooner than they actually will.

A 4.3% index drop does not automatically create a bargain. If earnings forecasts fall alongside share prices, valuations may remain expensive.

My strategy: watch earnings revisions, operating cash flow and AI monetization before calling a bottom. The next sustainable rally will require financial evidence, not simply cheaper share prices.
