🎁 Write & Win|Earnings Season: Hold or Sell?
Whenever a company is about to report, investors face the same question:
Earnings tonight—do you hold or sell?
Some investors hold with confidence: “I'm in it for the long term. One night won't change my view.”
Some trim their positions: “Lock in some gains and sleep better.”
Others keep cash ready: “If it drops, I'll buy more!”
One earnings report can send a stock soaring—or falling—overnight. So, what's your move?
🟢 Hold: Stay invested and ride through earnings
🔴 Sell: Trim your position and avoid the volatility
🟡 Wait: Stay on the sidelines and decide after earnings
💬 Not sure what to write? Start here 👇

Share your usual strategy and why it works for you.
④ Is there a stock you'd never hold through earnings?
Is it too volatile, or did a past earnings surprise teach you a lesson?
⑤ If your stock drops after earnings, would you buy the dip?
What would make you add more—and what would make you walk away?
Whether you're Hold, Sell, or Wait, share your real trades, experiences, and investment thinking with the community.

Earnings announcements often trigger knee-jerk market reactions, but for long-term investors, single-quarter volatility is secondary to structural growth. Heading into earnings for high-conviction tech and semiconductor leaders, my default strategy is to Hold.
Attempting to time earnings night exposes capital to Implied Volatility (IV) crush and irrational overnight swings. Instead of trimming quality compounders to avoid short-term noise, I focus on fundamental health: gross margin expansion, free cash flow conversion, and forward demand guidance.
A quarterly report rarely dismantles a multi-year thesis. If a post-earnings sell-off occurs despite solid underlying metrics, I view the dip not as a signal to exit, but as a disciplined opportunity to dollar-cost average. Enduring brief turbulence is simply the price of admission for long-term compound gains.
When it comes to earnings night, my approach is simple: I prefer to wait and see the results before investing more capital.
I’ve learned that market expectations and reality don’t always match. A company can report strong earnings and still see its share price fall because investors were expecting even better results. On the other hand, a company that misses expectations might rally if its outlook improves or the market has already priced in the bad news.
That’s why I don’t want to make decisions based only on excitement, headlines, or the hope of a quick profit. Earnings announcements can create big price swings, and options can be especially risky because implied volatility may drop sharply after the results are released.
My strategy is to let the initial reaction settle, then look at the company’s guidance, revenue growth, profitability, cash flow, and how the stock responds to the news. I also consider the broader market
