AI’s biggest risk may not be slowing growth, but the rising cost of sustaining it.

Investors celebrate accelerating revenue and cloud demand, yet overlook the billions needed to build data centers, purchase chips and secure computing capacity. Revenue growth alone cannot prove that an AI business creates economic value.

The real test is whether incremental revenue generates enough operating cash to cover capital expenditure while delivering attractive returns on invested capital.

This explains why AI leaders can receive different market reactions despite strong earnings. Investors are pricing tomorrow’s profitability, not just today’s growth. If spending rises faster than cash generation, impressive results may disappoint.

My focus is on free cash flow, capital expenditure efficiency and customer monetization. In this AI cycle, the winners may not be those spending the most, but those turning every dollar invested into sustainable cash returns.
