Apple’s biggest challenge is no longer simply selling more iPhones; it is protecting profitability.
The 12% revenue growth and record iPhone sales demonstrate strong demand. However, December-quarter gross-margin guidance of 45%–46% tells a different story. Rising memory prices are challenging Apple's pricing power.
Investors should also note that September-quarter gross margin benefited from approximately one percentage point in tariff refunds. This makes underlying profitability worth examining.
I believe Apple's competitive advantage remains its ecosystem, customer loyalty and enormous installed base. But these strengths must translate into sustainable earnings, not just impressive sales.
The real test is whether Apple can absorb rising costs without sacrificing demand. Until margins stabilize, record revenue alone is not enough to justify a higher valuation.
