A Tale of Two Tech Earnings: AMD Soars, Apple Stumbles — Is the AI Trade Back?

On US midterm election day, Wall Street could not make up its mind — and that indecision is the story. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.83% to 25,372.01, snapping a three-day slide, and the S&P 500 added 0.36% to 7,568.92. The Dow, meanwhile, fell 0.38% to 51,786.72. Tech led the rebound; rate-sensitive blue chips lagged as a hotter-than-expected JOLTS report pushed the 10-year Treasury yield to 4.93%. The real headline came after the bell. AMD reported third-quarter revenue of $13.38 billion, up about 45% year on year, ahead of roughly $13.1 billion expected, with adjusted EPS of $2.09 versus about $1.94-$1.95 expected. Data centre revenue nearly doubled, up 97% to a record $8.55 billion — now 64% of total sales, up from 47% a year ago. Guidance did the heavy lifting: fourth-quarter revenu

I remain positive on Apple’s $Apple(AAPL)$ long-term business, supported by its strong ecosystem, loyal customers and growing services segment. However, the weaker gross-margin outlook deserves attention, especially with rising memory costs potentially pressuring profitability. AI is another growth opportunity, but I want to see tangible results rather than just promising features. If Apple Intelligence can encourage iPhone upgrades and improve customer retention, it could create sustainable value over time. My approach is to remain patient and avoid chasing the stock after one strong earnings report. I will watch holiday demand, gross margins and services growth before making further decisions. My Choice: ② Margin pressure makes the ability to pass on costs the key issue. Apple’s biggest challenge is no longer simply selling more iPhones; it is protecting profitability. The 12% revenue growth and record iPhone sales demonstrate strong demand. However, December-quarter gross-margin guidance of 45%–46% tells a different story. Rising memory prices are challenging Apple's pricing power. Investors should also note that September-quarter gross margin benefited from approximately one percentage point in tariff refunds. This makes underlying profitability worth examining. I believe Apple's competitive advantage remains its ecosystem, customer loyalty and enormous installed base. But these strengths must translate into sustainable earnings, not just impressive sales. The real test is whe

Apple Revenue Rose 12%, Yet Shares Fell After Hours. What Worried the Market?

Apple delivered revenue and earnings per share above expectations, but its shares still came under pressure after the report. On November 2, Apple reported fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 results for the period ended September 26. Revenue reached approximately $114.5 billion, up 12% year over year, with EPS of $2.10. CNBC cited LSEG consensus estimates of $113.39 billion and $1.99, respectively, and reported that shares fell approximately 3% at one point in November 2 after-hours trading. This was John Ternus’s first earnings report as CEO. Apple posted a September-quarter revenue record, iPhone sales continued to grow, and services revenue reached an all-time high.[1][2] The next quarter’s outlook, however, contained an important split: revenue growth guidance exceeded expectations, while gros

AMD Has the AI Orders. Tomorrow We Find Out Whether It Has the AI Economics.

Apple and AMD report this week. Apple has the iPhone replacement cycle. AMD has something potentially much bigger: GIGAWATTS OF AI DEMAND. OpenAI. Meta. Anthropic. Microsoft. These are not speculative customer names. AMD has built one of the most impressive AI customer pipelines outside Nvidia. Yet AMD around: $516 creates a very different problem. The market no longer needs proof that customers WANT AMD chips. It needs proof that AMD can turn those commitments into: REVENUE → MARGIN → CASH. That is the real earnings test. 🔥 AMD'S AI STORY HAS QUIETLY CHANGED A year ago, investors were asking: Can AMD genuinely challenge Nvidia? I think that question is becoming outdated. Look at what has happened. OpenAI intends to deploy up to: 6 GW of AMD GPUs. Meta intends to deploy up to: 6 GW. Anthro

hey everyone, Wonton Investor here. sorry for the radio silence lol, i've been busy with school and internships. but i'm back, and i wanted to start with my best position ever, AMD, which i've held since 2022 and wouldn't buy today. why i bought it (it wasn't genius) my reasoning in 2022 was basically "Nvidia is obviously the AI chip winner, but it's expensive and everyone owns it, so i'll buy AMD, the other one". the classic retail move of buying the second-place horse because the first-place one costs too much. then DeepSeek happened in early 2025. everyone panicked that cheap Chinese AI meant US tech was finished, and i doubled my position instead. my argument was that cheaper AI means people use MORE of it, not less (the Jevons paradox), and that the shift towards inference would favou
