# Patience Before the Next Entry
My main takeaway from the 3 November market review was to give a promising setup time to prove itself. I’m keeping the ideas below at the watchlist stage while I work through confirmation and entry quality.
What stood out was how differently parts of the market were behaving. Weakness in technology existed alongside strength elsewhere. That makes the headline index an incomplete guide for my own decisions. I want to compare the major indices, sector performance and the average stock before deciding how much confidence to place in one bullish chart.
The same care applies to the areas attracting defensive buying. A familiar company or a defensive sector can still be stretched after a strong run. I need to look at how far price has travelled and where I could recognise that the setup has failed. Feeling comfortable with the business does not remove the risk of an awkward entry.
XLI and Analog Devices are two names I would revisit. For XLI, I would look for improving momentum to follow through into price. For Analog Devices, I would check whether its relative resilience holds up. In both cases, I want a clear trigger and room for the trade to work before nearby resistance becomes a problem.
Fastenal provided a useful reminder about timing. An interesting chart near resistance can remain on the watchlist while an event passes. Ahead of the U.S. midterm vote, leaving room to observe the market’s response made sense to me. An expected headline can still produce an unexpected reaction.
I also want to keep a possible rebound in beaten-down technology in proportion. A bounce can develop while the broader trend remains weak. I would judge it by the actual setup, the distance to resistance and the point at which I would abandon the idea. A large decline alone would not be enough to bring me in.
Finally, I want seasonal patterns to remain background context. They can help frame a period, but each entry still needs its own evidence. I can let an initial move develop while checking whether the entry still meets my rules.
My focus is to keep a short watchlist, wait for price confirmation and pass when the entry leaves too little room for error.
