10 examples why US tariffs shield domestic industries from foreign competition

Everyone hates tariffs but President Trump likes them: 10 examples why tariffs shield domestic industries from foreign competition and encouraging consumers to buy domestically produced items:Light Trucks: Since 1964, a 25% tariff, known as the "Chicken Tax," has been imposed on imported light trucks to protect domestic automakers. Washing Machines: In 2018, tariffs starting at 20% were placed on imported washing machines to support U.S. manufacturers like $Whirlpool(WHR)$ . Solar Panels: Also in 2018, a 30% tariff was imposed on imported solar panels to promote domestic production. Steel Products: A 25% tariff on imported steel has been applied to support the U.S. steel industry, affecting various consumer goods made from steel. Aluminum Product

Here's Why NVDA and SMCI Looks Cheap Now But Not A Good Time To Buy Now.

We are seeing semiconductors name like $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ and $SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC(SMCI)$ trading near their previous lows when we experienced sharp selloff. The last event was during the August and September 2024 period, which we saw a recovery small rally after these sharp selloff. So this current low price target of these two semiconductor stocks might tempt investors to buy the dip, but I think we need to be aware of more pain as AI revolution would be paused due to tariff concerns as corporations might reduce their budget spending. $SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust(SPY)$ JPOW speech on economy is April 4th, 2025. His speech can help fill a massive gap on this daily chart. But, fundamentally once it breaks this level $540 then next levels on this chart is now $520 and then $500.I'll alert where I believe the exact bottom will be and it will be in April.20% correction from all time highs takes it under $500. SPY Breached the lower Bollinger Band significantly.

$SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust(SPY)$ : Breached the lower Bollinger Band significantly. Given the bearish candle and volume validation, a substantial bounce is unlikely. However, a return to the band's range is expected. This is a bear market, but same as bull markets price action experiences technical resets. One of the bear market rallies of 2025 will come in May, when the FED will cut rates. Something short lived as in 2022. $S&P 500(.SPX)$ $NASDAQ 100(NDX)$ $Invesco QQQ(QQQ)$ ImageOpen a CBA today and enjoy access to a trading limit of up to SGD 20,000 with upcoming 0-commission, unlimited trading on SG, HK, and US stoc

Trump’s Tariff Gambit: How Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia Navigate the Semiconductor Storm

On April 2, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing steep tariffs on imports, targeting key semiconductor supply chain nations: Taiwan (32%), South Korea (25%), Japan (24%), and Malaysia (24%). Effective April 5, these measures signal a return to Trump’s “America First” trade strategy, aiming to pressure Asian economies into concessions while bolstering U.S. manufacturing. For the semiconductor industry—a global oligopoly dominated by U.S. design giants like AMD and NVIDIA, yet reliant on Asian production—the stakes are immense. This article examines how these four nations might respond, the potential impact on the chip sector, and early indicators of their strategies, such as the Intel-TSMC joint venture. Tariff Impact and Expectations

The tariffs are here, and Trump didn't hold back—tariffs on Chinese goods have increased to 54%, which aligns with market expectations. However, meeting market expectations doesn’t mean the troubles are over. Excessive tariffs can lead to a series of subsequent problems, such as economic recession or challenges in controlling inflation. The future largely depends on the Federal Reserve’s actions.Let’s break down the key points:1. What Are the Specific Risks?Tariff Increases May Significantly Raise Core Inflation Rates:If the full impact is passed on to consumer prices, core inflation could rise by 2.5 percentage points. A more reasonable assumption is a 50% pass-through rate, which would result in core inflation increasing by 1 percentage point. The Federal Reserve May Cut Rates Due to Slowi

TSLA : Fall on Thu (03 Apr) & Fri (04 Apr) ?

On Wed, 02 Apr 2025, US market managed to defy the trend and rose marginally, thanks to a surprising ADP employment report for March 2025. (see below) US ADP Employment. The March 2025 report, showed private sector employment growth of 155,000 jobs, exceeding market expectations of 118,000. This is a significant rebound from February’s upwardly revised of 84,000 jobs. Wage growth for job stayers rose by +4.6% YoY, while job changers saw a modest +6.5% increase, the lowest premium for switching jobs in over 3 years. Despite the better-than-expected report, US market was too “pre-occupied” with impending Trump’s tariffs and showed little interest; resulting in the 3 composite indexes trending lower at start of trading day. (see below) It rebounded twice on Wednesday - at 2:30 pm & 3:00 p
