Snacks, Stability, and the Sweet Spot for Dividends
Mondelez isn’t just feeding global snack cravings—it’s quietly feeding shareholder confidence too. The Oreo-maker has long promised stability with a side of yield, but with inflation pinching margins and consumer tastes evolving faster than ever, the question stands: is Mondelez still a dependable dividend play? Snacks evolve. Profits stay deliciously dependable As I see it, the answer lies not just in its earnings sheet but in its agility—how it adapts to shifting preferences, allocates capital, and navigates the unpredictable terrain of emerging markets. And on those fronts, $Mondelez(MDLZ)$ appears more nimble than many give it credit for. Cravings, Costs, and Commanding Prices Inflation tends to put packaged food giants in the hot seat. Raw ma
🌟🌟🌟UOB $UOB(U11.SI)$ has just celebrated its 90th year anniversary and is Singapore's 3rd largest bank after DBS and OCBC. Its share price has recently dropped to SGD 34.64 as Analysts downgraded UOB from Buy to Hold. This is due to concerns of weaker loan growth and higher credit costs as the US tariffs threaten a global trade war. In order to determine whether UOB is a Buy, let's check out its FY2024 earnings report issued on February 19 2025. In FY2024, UOB's net profit grew 6% from the previous year to a record SGD 6.0 billion. This is due to a strong net fee income, trading and investment income. Net interest income remained steady at SGD 9.7 billion as a healthy loan growth of 5%
April 2025 Update: Why Dividends Matter More Than Ever
Despite a 2.8% paper loss (-$12,000 SGD) in April 2025, I received $13,000 SGD in dividends, with $4,000 already deposited. This puts me on track for an estimated $20,000 SGD in passive income for 2025. This underscores the importance of dividends, particularly in times of economic uncertainty. Dividends offer a tangible return on investment—cash directly deposited into your account. Unlike capital gains, which can fluctuate, dividends are secure once paid. Investing in dividend-paying stocks mitigates stress from daily market volatility, allowing investors to focus on consistent income streams. This stability is particularly valuable when navigating external economic headwinds such as tariff wars. Furthermore, dividends from Singapore and Hong Kong-listed companies are tax-exe

Berkshire 2025: Is Value Investing the Golden Rule for Retail Investors?
On May 3, the 2025 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting will take place in Omaha, Nebraska — and this year’s gathering is capturing global attention for good reason. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Warren Buffett’s acquisition of Berkshire Hathaway, a milestone that highlights not just his longevity, but his enduring relevance in investing. At 94 years old, Buffett has confirmed he will attend in person. While his successor, Greg Abel, will take on a more prominent role, Buffett’s full participation is highly anticipated. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) For investors worldwide, this is more than an annual meeting. It’s a rare opportunity to hear from someone whose principles have shaped the financial decisions of generations. Personally, I’m excited to hear his thoughts on tod
Two ‘more’ pertinent economic reports were out yesterday, Tue 29 Apr 2025 : US consumer confidence index by The Conference Board. Jobs opening and labour turnover surveys (JOLTs) by US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Needless to say, both were disappointing, to put it mildly. Consumer Confidence Index - April 2025. Consumer confidence for April 2025, sank -7.9 points to 86, its lowest level since May 2020. (see above) It’s a larger decline than economists’ projection of 87.7. Another report, US’s Expectations Index, that captures people’s outlook on the economy, plummeted -12.5 points this month to 54.4, also the lowest level since October 2011. It is well below the threshold of 80 that usually signals a recession ahead. (see below) In the release, the Conference Board said consumers exp
I have been closely following the recent developments in the semiconductor industry, particularly the news surrounding Super Micro Computer Inc. $SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC(SMCI)$ and its implications for other players like Qualcomm. SMCI released preliminary results on Tuesday that fell well below what analysts had estimated, causing a sharp decline in its stock price by 15%. This significant drop has raised concerns across the sector, as it suggests broader challenges that might be affecting semiconductor companies during this earnings season. Additionally, NXP Semiconductors saw its shares decline due to worries about tariffs, and the announcement of their CEO, Kurt Sievers, stepping down only added to t

Trump Dinner vs. Buffett Lunch: Which Would You Choose?
Last week, Trump announced what he claimed to be the “world’s most exclusive invitation”: the top 220 buyers of the Trump Coin ($TRUMP) would be invited to a private dinner with the President on May 22.This brings to mind the annual Warren Buffett lunch that used to take place around this time each year.In 2022, an anonymous buyer paid $19 million for the final opportunity to have lunch with Buffett. The auction was started by Buffett’s late wife Susan in 2000 and was held annually, with proceeds totaling $50 million donated to foundations supporting the homeless, the poor, and other vulnerable groups. The winner of the auction could invite up to seven guests to dine with Buffett at Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in Manhattan, New York, and discuss investment-related topics. UPS Breaks Up with Amazon and Slashes 20,000 Jobs 📉📦🚨 United Parcel Service ($UPS) just dropped a logistics bombshell, severing ties with Amazon and slicing 20,000 jobs, over 4% of its workforce, in a sharp pivot toward profitability over volume. The move, which includes 73 facility closures, is aimed at generating $3.5B in savings by 2025, with CFO Brian Dykes claiming it will “expand our U.S. Domestic operating margin.” But Wall Street didn’t flinch.
