Earnings season is off to a rocky start, and the pattern is clear: even when companies beat expectations, the upside is minimal, while any stumble leads to sharp losses. Google’s performance sums it up—an initial pop quickly faded, ending with less than a 1% gain despite beating estimates. Meanwhile, misses like ASML’s are being punished brutally, with a double-digit slide that didn’t stop after day one. TSMC, another bellwether, briefly rallied post-earnings but couldn’t hold its gains, starting a losing streak instead. This is classic late-cycle behaviour: markets are priced for perfection after a long run-up, and even “good” results aren’t enough to move the needle higher. Investors are demanding more than just a beat—they want reassurance on future growth, margins, and clear evidence t

DBS charging toward S$50 is a headline moment for Singapore’s banking sector, but it’s also a flashing yellow light for anyone getting too comfortable at these highs. While the stock’s rise to an all-time high of $49.21 is impressive—especially after last year’s stellar 52% gain—the pace has noticeably cooled, up just 16% year-to-date. Valuations are now well above book value, and with such a massive loan book, DBS is more exposed than ever to shifts in net interest margins (NIM). Analysts are right to warn about increased share price volatility. As margin pressure accelerates—thanks to peaking rates, increased funding costs, and possible loan growth slowdowns—earnings across the sector could take a hit. DBS itself has flagged this risk, and the recent rally looks increasingly vulnerable t

This earnings season has been full of surprises. I expected “beat and rally” moves, but even strong results didn’t guarantee gains. $ASML Holding NV(ASML)$ dropped over 8% despite solid earnings, and IBM slid sharply the day after reporting. It’s clear investors are now focused more on guidance and macro risks than just revenue or EPS beats. I made a few trades, like a bear call spread on $Netflix(NFLX)$ , which paid off after the stock dipped post-earnings. Still, I’m more cautious now. Even chipmakers like TSM & $Texas Instruments(TXN)$ saw selling pressure despite decent results—fears around demand & trade issues seem to be in control. A simple beat

I think $ocbc bank(O39.SI)$ will close at SGD 18 next Friday. While margin pressure from falling SORA and HIBOR rates is real, much of it seems priced in. Investors may remain focused on OCBC’s solid fundamentals — stable NPL ratio at 0.9%, strong capital base, and a 6.0% dividend yield, which continues to attract income-focused buyers. Even with further NIM compression expected in Q2, I believe sentiment will stay moderately bullish. The recent high of SGD 17.45 shows strong momentum, and SGD 18 feels like a realistic level as long as earnings aren’t worse than expected. Conservative provisioning and stable asset quality offer some downside protection. As for $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$ , yes, I

TSLA and Elon Musk  This has been a traumatic week for Elon. The quarterly results posted was disappointing and it follows the trend seen the last few quarters of falling sales and falling profit. Worst is that cash on hand seem to getting smaller.  What is good though is they seem to have subsycash on hand still which Elon claims can fund their continued commitment to Robotaxi and Optimus Robots.  Still, unlike previous Elon Musk post results, this time he was a lot more subdued. And alot less energetic. This is telling and it may suggest things are worst than is being let known.  Take note also the recent avalanche of departures of high level personnels. Also, look what happened to Elon's last great hope. The Cybertruck. Look at how it has/is failing.  All things

Wall Street is partying like it’s 1999, with the S&P 500 hitting yet another record high this week. Headlines tout "solid earnings" as the driving force, while investors cheerfully high-five each other and pretend not to notice that several key players look like they just got hit by a financial freight train. Take Tesla (TSLA)—sure, it beat estimates this quarter, but mostly by pulling future promises out of a hat and sprinkling in some AI fairy dust. The market reacted like Musk had just promised to colonize Saturn next Tuesday, sending the stock flying despite razor-thin margins and a “growth story” that sounds more like sci-fi than finance. The current earnings season is characterized by a mixed reaction to company performance. While some companies, like Google (Alphabet), experience modest gains on earnings "beats," others, like ASML, face significant stock price drops due to disappointing results. This suggests that the market is more sensitive to negative news and that even solid performance may not guarantee positive stock movement.  Companies like Google (Alphabet) often see positive, albeit modest, stock price increases when they beat earnings expectations. This indicates that the market generally rewards companies that exceed predictions, but the magnitude of the gain can be influenced by various factors.
