Profit or Panic? How To Play August's Market Whiplash
🌟🌟🌟July has just wrapped up a 4 month winning streak and our portfolio maybe basking in the glow of steady gains. But August has a reputation for shaking things up. This can be due to seasonal volatility, macro surprises and valuation fatigue which could all conspire to test our conviction. And now, Trump's new global tariff regime is adding fresh uncertainty to the mix. Before the next wave hits, it is worth asking - Should we take profits, stay the course or lean into the dip with fresh capital? Why August Could Bring a Pullback Even strong markets need to catch their breath. Here are the possible reasons why August might bring a pullback : Valuations are stretched : High multiples across sectors leave little room for error. Seasonal volatility :
I usually rely on technical indicators when deciding my entry point, especially in a strong bull market where prices keep hitting new highs. Even when a company has strong fundamentals and beats earnings, I often wait rather than chasing the price. Using technical levels helps me stay disciplined and avoid emotional entries. My preferred strategy is to start building a position when the stock retraces to the EMA25 or EMA50. These moving averages often serve as solid support in an uptrend. I wait for the price to touch these levels and look for reversal signals before buying, which helps me avoid catching a falling knife and improves my entry timing. I rarely buy at the current price unless there's a strong breakout with volume. More often, I scale in if the stock pulls back by 5% or more—
If a Stock Is Too Strong, What Signals Tell You It’s Safe to Enter?
As US stocks keep hitting new highs, do you often encounter this situation: a stock has solid fundamentals and beats earnings expectations, but there’s just no good entry point? Then when it finally dips, you're afraid of catching a falling knife and don’t dare to buy?So how exactly should we choose our entry point? Here are some commonly used buy-in reference indicators—let’s discuss them together:When do you usually enter a position? Or do you follow another strategy? 👇🟢 Technical reference price points:Buy at the current price (no waiting—it’s strong and keeps going)Wait for a pullback to the 5-day moving average (5MA)Wait for a pullback to the 10-day moving average (10MA)Wait for a pullback to the 30-day moving average (30MA)Wait for RSI to drop back to around 50Wait for RSI to approach

My trade idea for today centers on the highly anticipated FIGMA $Figma(FIG)$ IPO, which debuted last night. As a popular platform in the tech and design space, it drew strong attention. The initial price action was volatile—typical for a high-profile IPO—so I’m watching closely to see how sentiment settles in the coming sessions. I'm eyeing a potential short trade if FIGMA experiences a sharp early pop that pushes it beyond reasonable technical or valuation levels. IPO stocks often see a surge followed by a pullback, and I’m looking to catch that move if the setup aligns. A short-term momentum fade could offer a solid risk-reward play, especially if broader market sentiment remains mixed. For now, I’ll stay patient and observe the volume, instit

$VXX 20250801 45.0 PUT$ VXX: closed the trade for 62% max premium profit. This trade was deep in the money as of yesterday and I was resigned to get exercised when it expire today 1st Aug. It was only trading at $42.46 at closing on 31st July and VXX had been trading below the strike of $45 since 21st July. However a glimmer of hope today when volatility spiked to above $45 so I took the opportunity to close this trade to conserve more capital in preparation for a potentially Volatile market if the market continue to reverse its trend downwards. I still hold a net 800 shares long VXX at average cost of $49 so I won't immediately need too get assigned more shares for now.
