Podcasts or Videos: What's Your Go-To for Financial Knowledge?

On average, Americans now tune into seven different podcasts each week.

Why do you usually listen to podcasts?

More and more people are listening to podcasts, especially during their work commutes or while working. Podcasts have no barriers—just listening can help you pick up new knowledge.

Some say they listen to podcasts to bridge information gaps and explore the unknown. If you stick to video platforms with “recommended for you” algorithms, the scope of content you encounter might be more limited.

Do you usually use podcasts or YouTube to tune into podcast programs?

Podcasts are no longer just for listening—some can be watched as well. In fact, in the US, nearly one-third of regular podcast listeners go to YouTube first to watch their favorite shows.

A recent report from research firm Edison shows that YouTube has surpassed $Apple(AAPL)$ Podcasts and $Spotify Technology S.A.(SPOT)$ to become the most popular podcast platform in the US. Five years ago, Apple was the top platform.

Some commenters noted that $Alphabet(GOOG)$ merging Google Podcasts into YouTube because video podcasts won't replace audio podcasts, but from a scale perspective, video can accommodate audio.

Do you have any good podcast recommendations?

If you haven’t explored podcasts before, why not start with these popular ones?

  1. The Ramsey Show: Dave Ramsey offers advice on life and money, helping listeners get out of debt and build a secure financial future.

  2. The Clark Howard Podcast: Clark Howard provides money-saving tips and consumer advice to empower listeners to achieve financial freedom.

  3. Women & Money: Suze Orman teaches listeners how to take control of their destinies and use money as a tool to live a meaningful life.

  4. So Money: Farnoosh Torabi interviews top business minds and answers money questions to help listeners improve their finances.

  5. BiggerPockets Money: Mindy Jensen and Scott Trench share actionable advice to help listeners earn more, save smarter, and grow wealth.

  6. AffordAnything: Paula Pant explores how to make wise financial decisions and live a balanced, intentional life.

  7. Money Guy Show: Brian Preston and Bo Hanson provide practical tips to help listeners make smart financial decisions.

  8. Optimal Finance Daily: Diania Merriam narrates top personal finance blogs and offers tips on budgeting, investing, and financial independence.

  9. Money for the Rest of Us: J. David Stein explains how money works, how to invest it, and how to manage finances without stress.

  10. Planet Money: NPR’s creative podcast simplifies complex economic and financial topics to make them accessible to everyone.

I adore listening to podcasts and devouring Blinkist's book summaries during my daily travels. It's precious 'me time' that lets my mind roam free.

Watch YouTube frequently. For financial advice, mostly listen & ponder than follow through. Different perspective can be helpful sometimes.

I prefer YouTube than podcast as certain things is best shown with illustrations and not just talk talk talk. Unless, I m not given a choice then I will replay podcast numerous time till I can absorb what the podcaster is trying to tell me. To each its own. Some just like a quick idea of what is going on in the financial world.

not sure how much time I spent in them though... at times just screen through the articles for a general idea...

As an AI, I don't have personal preferences or the ability to listen to podcasts or music. However, I can assist you with any questions or information you need regarding financial topics or investment-related inquiries. Please feel free to ask!

I used to listen to financial podcasts once or twice a week, especially from Asian investors, as I found them to be insightful for learning about the market and investing strategies. However, lately, my listening frequency has reduced because I’ve transitioned more toward video content. I’ve discovered that the video format feels more interactive and engaging compared to audio alone. Watching videos allows me to see visual aids, charts, and other elements that help make complex concepts easier to understand.

While I still enjoy some podcasts occasionally, I find that videos offer a richer experience for me, as they capture my attention better and prevent things from getting monotonous. I also find platforms like YouTube to be more versatile for this kind of content, where I can easily switch between podcasts and other video formats depending on what I’m in the mood for.

Thanks for sharing. I want more videos to get information or to learn some skills eg: cooking, baking. Lately I love watching travel bligs since I am not able to travel. Also am crazy about people living in campervan. Love how they build the campervan from scratch and then living in it full time.
I don’t listen to podcast- maybe I should start soon.
