GOLD: Safe-haven Demand is Rising?

$XAU/USD(XAUUSD.FOREX)$ $Gold - main 2504(GCmain)$ At the beginning of the Asian market on Wednesday (5 March), spot gold was high and narrowly oscillating, currently trading near $2910.90. In the context of the escalation of trade conflict after President Donald Trump imposed new tariffs, the dollar weakened to nearly three-month lows, increased safe-haven demand, pushing gold prices up 0.84% (about $24) to $2917.56 on Tuesday, and the highest during the session had touched $2,927.66 for the second consecutive trading day of gains.

The price of gold rose sharply on Tuesday (4 March) on the back of increased safe-haven demand as the US dollar weakened in the wake of escalating trade conflict following US President Donald Trump's imposition of new tariffs

Gold closed Tuesday's trading session soaring $24.68, or 0.85 per cent, at $2,917.53.

Gold prices soared on Tuesday as investors sought safe-haven due to uncertainty over trade policy. The U.S. imposed 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, which enhanced the appeal of gold.

The Atlanta Fed's GDP Now model downgraded its forecast for the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025 to a contraction of -2.8 per cent from growth of 1.6 per cent, raising fears of a U.S. recession.

As a result, traders seeking safety bought gold, pushing the price above $2,900.

So far this year, the price of gold has risen nearly 11% and hit a new all-time high of 2956.15 on 24 February.
