UiPath (PATH) Positive Earnings Call Saw Share Price Down 19%

PATH has a positive earnings call on 05 Dec 2024 but the share price is down 19% since.

The earnings call presented a generally positive outlook with several significant achievements, including surpassing financial guidance, ARR growth, and strong interest in new product offerings. While there are some concerns related to revenue growth rate and past execution challenges, these are being actively addressed. The partnership with SAP and the excitement around Agentic Automation provide strong growth potential.

UiPath (PATH) Guidance On Stable Net New ARR And Stronger Free Cash Flow

During the UiPath Q3 2025 earnings call, the executives provided a positive outlook, surpassing guidance across key financial metrics. The company reported an ARR of $1.607 billion, marking a 17% increase year-over-year, with net new ARR contributing $56 million. Revenue for the quarter was $355 million, and UiPath achieved a non-GAAP operating income of $50 million. The company also highlighted a robust non-GAAP operating margin of 14% and a non-GAAP adjusted free cash flow of $33 million. UiPath's guidance for Q4 2025 includes expected revenue between $422 million and $427 million, with an ARR range of $1.669 billion to $1.674 billion, and a non-GAAP operating income of approximately $100 million. The company is optimistic about stabilizing net new ARR dollars and accelerating free cash flow growth in fiscal 2026.

Key Factors Influencing Q4 2024 Earnings:

Market Position & Competition

Strength: UiPath is a leader in RPA, with a strong foothold in enterprise automation. Its early-mover advantage and focus on AI-enhanced workflows (e.g., task mining, process intelligence) could drive differentiation.

Risk: Competition from Microsoft Power Automate, Automation Anywhere, and SaaS giants integrating automation tools may pressure margins.

Macroeconomic Environment

Demand for Automation: Economic conditions in 2024 will impact IT spending. A focus on cost-saving tools like RPA during economic uncertainty could benefit UiPath.

Over 1,000 organizations have registered for the private preview of Agentic Automation, indicating strong interest and engagement from customers.

Geopolitical/Regulatory Risks: Data privacy laws or trade policies affecting global operations might influence growth.

Financial Metrics (Past Trends)

PATH exceeded the high end of its guidance across all key financial metrics, showcasing improved execution and the value of its AI-powered automation platform.

Revenue Growth: Consistent YoY growth (e.g., 20%+ in recent quarters) would signal strong demand. Look for Q3 2024 results to gauge momentum. ARR increased to $1.607 billion, a 17% increase year-over-year, driven by net new ARR of $56 million.

Revenue growth was at 9% year-over-year, which is slower compared to the ARR growth rate, suggesting potential challenges in converting ARR to recognized revenue.

Profitability: Improving operating margins or a path to profitability (via cost management) would be positive. Watch for cash flow trends and burn rate.

Net Retention Rate: A high dollar-based net retention rate (e.g., >120%) indicates upselling success and customer stickiness.

Product Innovation & Partnerships

AI Integration: Enhancements with generative AI or deeper ML capabilities could attract new clients.

Past execution issues were referenced, with improvements attributed to changes in incentive compensation plans and sales team refocus.

Strategic Alliances: Partnerships with consultancies (e.g., Accenture, Deloitte) or cloud providers (AWS, Azure) may expand market reach. UiPath's platform was integrated into SAP's build process automation solution, enhancing its reach and credibility with enterprise customers.

Customer Base Expansion

Industry Penetration: Growth in sectors like healthcare, government, or SMBs could diversify revenue streams. UiPath secured its largest deal in the quarter with a health care customer utilizing Agentic Automation, highlighting the demand and potential for the new product suite.

The demand environment is stable but not improving, indicating potential challenges in market expansion or acceleration.

Global Reach: International expansion, particularly in EMEA or APAC, might offset saturation in core markets. The company ended Q3 2024 with approximately 10,790 customers, including significant new logos like Amplitude and Aqua Dermatology.

UiPath (PATH) Price Target

Based on 5 Wall Street analysts offering 12 month price targets for UiPath in the last 3 months. The average price target is $15.00 with a high forecast of $16.00 and a low forecast of $14.00. The average price target represents a 23.86% change from the last price of $12.11.

What could actually shift the price target including the market meltdown, would be these two scenarios.

  • Bull Case: Accelerating AI adoption, robust retention rates, and macroeconomic tailwinds drive revenue beats and improved margins.

  • Bear Case: Economic slowdowns, increased competition, or execution missteps (e.g., product delays) lead to missed estimates and lowered guidance.

Technical Analysis - Exponential Moving Average (EMA)

With the market meltdown, PATH is trading below the 12-EMA, and it would be challenging for PATH to break this level, unless there is strong gap up after its earnings. The momentum seen from RSI is not promising as it is moving towards the oversold region.

So there is potential continued downside as the market continue to experience meltdown.

Summary

UiPath’s Q4 2024 earnings will likely reflect its execution in a competitive RPA landscape, macroeconomic conditions, and AI-driven product evolution. While the company is well-positioned to capitalize on automation trends, risks around competition and spending environments remain. Monitoring pre-earnings updates and management commentary will be critical for a nuanced assessment.

Earnings surprises (positive or negative) could cause volatility. Investors will scrutinize forward guidance and AI-related metrics. Consensus estimates will hinge on UiPath’s ability to balance growth and profitability. Analysts may focus on ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) trends and large-deal momentum.

Company has $3/share in cash! Plus going forward will generate 20% plus operating margin…..means over $300mm of freecashflow. Using a 25x multiple of freecashflow you get $7.5b plus $1.5b of cash…..translates into valuation of $9b or $16.36/share. So upside from here is 40% and downside is 10%.
