Friday market reacts to the tariffs concerns after President Trump warned of a 25% tariff on iPhones not made in the U.S. This create uncertainty just before the holiday weekend.

Nvidia lost 1.7% and we saw quantum stocks performance was mixed, with $Quantum Computing Inc.(QUBT)$ still able to gain 10.27% on Friday, only $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ lost 0.22% and $D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$ lost 1.26%.

This is pretty significant compared to the gains that IONQ, QBTS and QUBT gained 36.52%, 23.96% and 14.52% respectively on Thursday.

So this makes me wonder whether there is clear re-ignition of interest in quantum computing stocks, and Nvidia has played a significant role in this surge.

In this article I would like to examine what is happening and we will examine them together.

This center aims to integrate leading quantum hardware with AI supercomputers, focusing on advancing quantum algorithms and architectures.

Potential PsiQuantum Investment: More recently (May 2025), reports surfaced that Nvidia is in advanced talks to invest in PsiQuantum, a photonic quantum computing startup. This would mark Nvidia's first direct investment in quantum hardware qubits and signals a strategic shift in their long-term outlook for the field, despite earlier, more pessimistic comments from CEO Jensen Huang about the timeline for useful quantum computers.

CUDA-Q and Hybrid Systems: Nvidia has been developing CUDA-Q, an open-source hybrid computing platform designed to orchestrate hardware and software for large-scale quantum computing applications. This signifies their commitment to building the software stack that will connect quantum hardware to classical supercomputing.

ABCI-Q Supercomputer: Nvidia announced in May 2025 the opening of the Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI Technology (G-QuAT) in Japan, which hosts ABCI-Q – the world's largest research supercomputer dedicated to quantum computing, featuring NVIDIA H100 GPUs and integrated with various quantum processors. This shift in tone from a highly influential figure in tech has undoubtedly boosted confidence in the quantum sector.

Quantum Stocks Soaring

Following these developments, and particularly in May 2025, several quantum computing stocks have indeed seen significant surges:

IonQ (IONQ): Shares of IonQ popped significantly (e.g., 37% in one day in May 2025), partly fueled by its CEO, Niccolo de Masi, stating that IonQ aims to become the "Nvidia of quantum computing."

I think we are seeing some pullback from IONQ, from the broad market sell off on Friday, but IONQ did not suffered significant losses and I believe we could be seeing another rally coming back on Tuesday after the long weekend.

IONQ momentum still remain strong positive.

D-Wave Quantum (QBTS): D-Wave has also seen surges, driven by announcements like its new quantum computer launch (Advantage2) and strong quarterly revenue.

For QBTS, I think we are going to see a slight pullback when market open on next Tuesday, before making another rally.

Rigetti Computing (RGTI): Rigetti has also experienced significant increases alongside its peers.

Quantum Computing Inc. (QUBT): This stock has seen very substantial gains in recent weeks, with reports of it surging over 1,000% in a month at one point, highlighting extreme investor excitement.

We can see that analyst are still positive on this stock and the RSI momentum remains strong positive, hence, I think with Nvidia earnings coming next week, we could see some more action from QUBT.

Why the Reaction?

AI Synergy: The narrative around quantum computing is increasingly intertwined with AI. Quantum computers are seen as potentially accelerating AI workloads and solving problems that classical computers struggle with. Nvidia's dominance in AI chips makes its venture into quantum particularly compelling for investors.

With AI already a massive trend, quantum computing is viewed by many as the next frontier in computing, capable of unlocking solutions to currently intractable problems in fields like drug discovery, materials science, and cryptography.
