I lean overreaction, but with a genuine warning embedded in it.

Friday’s decline was not isolated to SanDisk. Memory and AI-hardware names were hit broadly, with Micron, Western Digital and Seagate also falling sharply as investors reduced exposure to one of 2026’s strongest trades. That makes the 10%+ move look partly like sector deleveraging and profit-taking rather than evidence that SanDisk’s fundamentals suddenly deteriorated.

The bull case remains substantial. NAND pricing and AI/data-centre storage demand have improved dramatically, while analysts remain broadly positive. Recent consensus data still show a Buy rating, although the enormous US$1,000 to US$3,250 target range illustrates how uncertain the valuation has become. Wedbush has actually raised its estimates ahead of the 5 August earnings, arguing that pricing could be stronger than management previously assumed.

But the bears have a legitimate argument: SanDisk has already priced in an extraordinary NAND cycle. At this stage, merely reporting excellent earnings may not be enough. Investors will want evidence that NAND ASPs remain firm, supply discipline continues, AI-related enterprise SSD demand is durable and margins can stay elevated rather than peaking in 2026.

So I would frame 5 August as the real test:

Strong results + stronger pricing/guidance: Friday increasingly looks like an overreaction and potentially a reset of an overheated valuation.

Strong results + cautious forward guidance: dangerous. We have already seen this market punish semiconductor companies despite good headline numbers.

Weak pricing or signs of inventory/supply normalisation: Friday could indeed be a preview of a much larger memory-cycle correction.

My verdict: about 60% overreaction, 40% early warning. I would be considerably more cautious buying this dip than earlier ones. SanDisk's biggest risk is no longer whether AI needs storage. It is whether future NAND profitability can rise fast enough to justify expectations that have become exceptionally high.
