Meituan or Alibaba: Contrarian Gamble or Safe Momentum Play?

$MEITUAN-W(03690)$ $Alibaba(BABA)$ Investing is never just about numbers. It’s also about narratives, conviction, and the trade-off between safety and opportunity. This week, that age-old question resurfaced in dramatic fashion as two of China’s biggest internet companies, Meituan (03690.HK) and Alibaba (BABA), unveiled earnings that sent their stock prices in opposite directions. The divergence was striking. Meituan’s latest report showed pressure on profitability, triggering a sharp sell-off in its shares. In contrast, Alibaba surprised to the upside, rallying more than 12% in a single day after its earnings release. On the earnings call, Meituan CEO Wang Xing tried to reframe the market’s disappointme

Choosing Winners in Crypto Stocks: The Key Metrics Every Investor Should Follow

$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$ $MARA Holdings(MARA)$ $Block, Inc.(XYZ)$ The cryptocurrency ecosystem has always been volatile, but 2025 has introduced a new wrinkle for investors: it’s not just the tokens themselves swinging wildly, but the performance of crypto-related stocks diverging in meaningful ways. Option selling cheat mode

Seeing a ton of posts about options selling being a cheat code, money printer, etc. Can I provide a cautionary tale of the risks? In November 2021, I decided to wheel a decent chunk of money. $SOFI had just come off a triple beat, was still cheaper than its competitors like $UPST, $AFRM, $HOOD, etc., had a massive catalyst coming in the bank charter, was my highest conviction stock, and had great premiums. The stock was stabilizing after those earnings in the mid $20s. There was a secondary offering and they announced the redemption of their warrants and the stock dropped. I thought it was an opportunity and I sold CSPs when it was in the low 20s at a $19 strike. It immediately dropped to the $17-$18 range. I got assigned. You are weighing two classic investment mindsets—contrarian (underdog) versus momentum (major trend). Both have merit, but the context matters. --- The Underdog Case (Meituan) Valuation Compression: After a steep sell-off, the stock may be trading at a discount relative to its fundamentals, making upside potential more attractive if execution improves. Asymmetric Payoff: Negative sentiment may already be priced in, so any positive catalyst (e.g., easing competition, better margins, regulatory tailwinds) could trigger outsized gains. Long-Term Positioning: If you believe Meituan can defend market share and eventually monetise new initiatives, the current weakness could be a buying opportunity. Risk: Catching the underdog requires patience and conviction, as underperformance can persist for

From Cash Burn to Chip Power: Is Alibaba a Buy-and-Hold to $150?

$Alibaba(BABA)$ Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) has long been regarded as one of China’s most important technology conglomerates, but over the last several years, the company’s reputation with investors has been tested. From Beijing’s regulatory crackdowns to intensifying domestic competition and U.S. geopolitical restrictions, Alibaba has faced challenges that reshaped how global markets view the stock. Now, in 2025, the company is trying to write its next chapter. The latest earnings report contained one particularly notable development: Alibaba unveiled a new artificial intelligence chip designed to help fill the vacuum left by U.S. export restrictions on Nvidia’s high-end GPUs. The announcement triggered immediate investor enthusiasm, sending the s

I’m starting this week focused on Alibaba $Alibaba(BABA)$ $Alibaba(09988)$ after its better-than-expected earnings drove a strong surge. The company’s push to revitalize Taobao and expand instant retail shows it can still generate growth despite headwinds. After years of underperformance, this move feels like a potential turning point and a sign of renewed investor confidence. Still, I’m cautious about chasing the rally. The beat gives Alibaba momentum, but China’s market remains volatile with regulatory and macro risks. I’ll be watching if the stock can hold above resistance and turn it into support, rather than seeing short-term profit-taking. Overall, my mood is neutral-to-optimistic. I see Alibab

🐾 Options Puppy Plays with JEPI: A Covered Call Snack

As an investor, I position myself as a disciplined learner in the markets, focusing on covered calls and cash-secured puts under the framework of my “Options Puppy” journey. With a background in accounting studies, I have developed a strong foundation in financial analysis, capital allocation, and risk management. My core strategy is built on financial freedom through stable income streams, beginning with the reliability of Singapore government bonds, while enhancing returns through options premium generation and Tiger Vault strategies. This dual approach balances long-term security with short-term cash flow, enabling me to service housing loans and meet daily living expenses without financial strain.
