[Events] Dumpling or Dumping? Your Toughest Trade of the Year

Wrapping zongzi—traditional sticky rice dumplings for the Dragon Boat Festival—looks easy, but it’s surprisingly tricky. You need the right leaf, the right amount of filling, and just the right fold. One wrong move, and the whole thing falls apart.

Sounds familiar? Investing can feel exactly the same. Pick the wrong stock, buy at the wrong time, or get shaken out too early—and just like a poorly wrapped zongzi, your portfolio gets "sticky and messy."

This Dragon Boat Festival, I would like to invite you to share your toughest stock you tried to "wrap up" this year.

the toughest obstacle in trading is oneself..., I bought many stocks but I rarely made a sell trade thinking of better gains when prices are rising but when it starts to drop little by little, I hesitate and hesitate until it dropped further...I gone through many ups n downs but no dumping just seating pretty watching the the upd n downs and sometimes bought more when prices were down.
So I m more of a wrapping dumplings person then dumping investor 😁
A good trader should have a set target n goal n act on it when these targets are met to really capitalize on the swings of trading...I m working on it haha Happy dragon boat festival and have a great dumplings feast!!!

I would say a frustrating trade would be MRK $Merck(MRK)$ . I viewed it as a strong defensive stock in the Dow components [Facepalm]. Initially did make profits & collected partial profits along the way [USD]....hence but Might be blinded by the wins [Gosh].... & not exiting All when the chart said so... [Cry]. Is it too late 😭.... maybe 🤔.... For now, looking at a suitable Recovery plan 😜. @Shyon @yourcelesttyy @JC888 @Shernice軒嬣 2000 @Barcode

What a wonderful analogy. Humourous,  accurate yet appropriate depiction. Personally I must say it would be the Novocure stocks. I made some, but following a very encouraging climb, it headed south due to uncertainties of many kinds. Nonetheless, still feel positive about it, and hope to celebrate it with more savoury dumplings. Dumplings please. No dumping.

After three green trades in a row, I went heavy on the next setup without waiting for confirmation. It reversed hard right after my entry, and I froze instead of cutting the loss. That single trade erased all my prior gains and reminded me that overconfidence is the silent killer. @AhGong

@luv2trade

I jumped into a stock after a bullish headline hit Twitter — no research, no confirmation — just pure FOMO. It spiked for five minutes, then tanked just as fast. I lost 15% in less than an hour. I realized I was trading someone else’s excitement, not my own plan. @nickname168

Early in my trading journey, I made a 300% return in one week on a risky options trade. I thought I had figured out the game.I took the entire gain — and then some — and rolled it into another options bet the next week. No stop, no hedge, just pure belief. I figured I was “hot.”The market whipsawed, the implied volatility crushed the premiums, and I watched my options decay to nothing. That win had inflated my ego — and then it popped. @luv2trade

Dumpling or Dumping - Top Glove $Top Glove(BVA.SI)$ journey from Covid Darling to Disaster. At the height of pandemic, Top Glove was the perfect dumpling,  a meticulously crafted symbol of hope. In a time of unprecedented need, its products were as essential as each ingredient in a lovingly prepared dumpling. Every glove was a promise of safety. Yet behind that gleaming facade, a disastrous trade was set in motion.

To meet soaring global demand, TopGlove opted for a cut price recipe that sacrificed its core values. Like a chef hurriedly dumping poor ingredients into a recipe, it comprised by having overcrowded dormitories, underpaid workers which emerged like bitter surprises inside what was once a winning culinary masterpiece.

The lesson I learnt was that no matter how enticing short term gains appear, a sustainable investment must be based on solid  fundamentals.  It reminds me that the real dumpling in investment is one built on solid fundamentals.

My toughest trade was with $Faraday Future Intelligent Electric Inc.(FFAI)$ . I took a speculative position thinking I could catch a turnaround after some buzz about new developments and partnerships. The stock was trading at rock-bottom levels, and I figured the risk-reward ratio looked decent. But like trying to wrap a zongzi with a torn leaf, the setup just wouldn’t hold—every small rally got sold off, and the momentum kept fizzling out.

The most frustrating part was how unpredictable the price action became. There were days it spiked 20% on no news, only to crash back down the next day. I kept asking myself: "Is this a breakout or just another head fake?" It was a tough lesson in not chasing hype and recognizing when the fundamentals don’t support the narrative, no matter how tempting the entry point might look.

My recent toughest trade of 2025 should be this Chagee. Supposed to be a high end leading tea brand. It was listed in mid Apr and went up to about $41 in end Apr, and now is back to abt $28 (listed price). Volatility seems incredible indeed. Maybe due to this frequent Trump's tariff news. Chinese related counters seem more affected especially with his strong tariff position with China. Guess that Chagee should ride out of this volatility in the longer term, in view of healthy and getting popular high end tea drinks worldwide. The key consideration is to hold a counter longer term if you think that the business that you are buying would be progressing well moving forward. Perhaps also diversify your portfolio to bring down risk level. e.g. don't buy 2 or more similar counters of same business. Cheers. [What] [What]

    最艰难的应该是特斯拉了。今年饱受关税的影响,然后又在全球反特朗普的情况下欧美的订单暴跌。

I saw a chart that looked “interesting” and entered impulsively without a real thesis or stop loss. When it dipped, I had no framework for what to do, so I just hoped it would come back. It didn’t. That trade taught me that no entry should happen without a full plan. @deal2deal

@onlyYou

I had just taken a loss on a trade I was sure would work — shorting a meme stock during the 2021 craze. I got squeezed out with a 25% loss. Instead of stepping away, I got angry. @deal2deal

Another tricky stock would be $Hims & Hers Health Inc.(HIMS)$

It seems to have all the fuel required to run. But then and now, you have nasty analysts downgrades, sell ratings, questionable news and high short interest to bring the stock down. Other than that, HIMS has a 10x potential.

$Marathon Digital Holdings Inc(MARA)$ is rather tricky as well, again due to high short interest. However, I do believe in its upside potential, given it's profile as the largest American BTC miner.
